100 Square Fundraiser
$4,000 raised for Caring for a Cure! Thank you so much to everyone who participated.
I decided to kick off my 2025 Boston Marathon fundraiser with a virtual fundraising game. To do this, I created 100 squares that were numbered 1-100. These all went on sale for a price that was equivalent to the number in each square. When someone purchased a square, they also received one entry for every dollar that was spent. The entries went towards the chance to win one of three cash prizes: first place = $600, second place = $300, third place = $150.

A huge thank you to the talented Karoline Cunico, the designer of my game board. Seriously, you guys should have seen it before she worked her magic. Karoline, I am eternally grateful for your support in my endeavors.
As I collected donations, I kept track of every contribution in this excel sheet. Doing so allowed me to prepare how I would draw winners for my game without hand writing 5,050 individual entries. Everyone who bought a square had their name entered in a cell in the sheet. The total number of times that one person’s name was entered is the amount of entries they received to win.
I used two excel functions to draw winners. I used the RANDBETWEEN formula to generate a random number between 2 and 5051. The number generated represented the row that a winner’s name is in. I then used the INDEX formula to identify which name was in the row that the first function identified.
Winners:
Micheal Sanguliano won the first place prize of $600 (Michael had square 100).
Ashley Adamson won the second place prize of $300 (Ashley had square 70).
Hayden Farley won the third place prize of $150 (Hayden had square 73).
I made an Instagram reel to capture the moment where I drew winners. You can view part one here and part two here!
Overall, 90 different people participated in this fundraising game. Together, we raised $4,000 for Caring for a Cure. I can’t help but marvel over the impact that we can make when working together.
